Hi, I’m The Content Girl,
Really it’s Ellen, but that’s not important.
What’s important is that recently it dawned on me that, for the past few years, I’ve spent a lot of time writing for other people, and practically no time at all writing for myself.
A former journalism student and Content Writer by trade, I've been writing blogs, articles, eBooks, reports, scripts, and god-knows what else for businesses around the world for the past six years.
I don’t want to find myself so wrapped up in writing to meet very (very) specific client briefs day in day out, that I forget what started it all in the first place — the fact I love to write.
And, as a writer, I should get to put my name to at least some of the work I create, right? So, that’s what this is. My passion project. A release. My own work, in my own voice, that’s required to meet no briefs but the ones I make up for myself. And I can’t wait…
What should I expect?
A mix of things!
I can’t promise everything will resonate, but that’s okay. What I can promise (for free!!) is:
Commentary on pop-culture/regular culture and the like
Insights/tips/information around professional Content Writing/Marketing and Digital Marketing
Personal essays (I’ll try to make these not insufferable, I swear)
Book reviews, recommendations, and roundups
The odd piece of flash fiction
Freelancer Diaries (join club content!!)
Most recently, I swapped London offices and expensed Pret lunches for life on my own as a freelancer.
And Jesus Christ, it’s scary. And what’s scarier is that most of the advice out there is either crazy generic, or coming from dubious coaches who want to charge you £1,00 upfront to get it.
I wanted a freelancing big sister when I started. That’s why, I’ll be sharing the highs, lows, learnings, curve balls, and money worries that come with going self-employed, plus the ins and outs of actually making your living as a writer. All under the umbrella of Freelancer Diaries.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in following along with, and maybe engaging in the odd discussion about it, I’d absolutely love you to consider becoming a paid subscriber. Can’t wait to have you in the club!
