Everything worth getting through February for
Last week of February here we goooooo
The fact that you’re basically done with the cold, rainy months now, and there are already snowdrops sprouting on a grass near you. Literally. If you’re in the UK, go out and walk until you see grass, there’ll be some snowdrops there.
The fact that people outside of the Substack world are starting to realise that AI-generated writing is actually just really, really bad.
The fact that Substack exists and you’re on it, and you have a platform upon which to publish the most beautifully un-asked-for opinions about whatever you want. Like, literally, you can write an entire, unprompted essay about Jacob Elordi’s earring in Wuthering Heights (pro or anti), and at least one person will read it and comment with their own thoughts. How magical is that?
The fact that pastel nail polish season is almost upon us.
The fact that TikTok is facing consequences for the infinite scroll and MAYBE this is a good sign for our collective attention spans? Or at least a sign that everything won’t be like this forever? I don’t know, maybe this one’s a stretch, but it still feels positive to me.
The fact that libraries exist.
The fact that veggie Chicken nuggets exist and they’re genuinely good. In FACT, they’re actually one of the rare examples where the meat-free version is exactly as good as the original.
The fact that, despite all the horrors, access to the internet means that in theory, you could just look up any topic or fact or language and start the journey to becoming an expert in it. Literal terabytes of knowledge at our fingertips. Why are we ever bored?
The fact that you don’t actually know what’s around the corner and even though that’s scary, it means that an infinite number of good things could, in theory, be just around the corner.
The fact that new independent bookshops are still opening. In this economy.
The fact that you’re on Substack so you’re currently one of the people that still read long-form content, and therefore you have proof that people still read long-form content.
That it’s the year of the horse, and even if that means absolutely nothing to you, it’s a really nice reminder to act boldly and fiercly for a little while.
